Besides organising its own races the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team (SCMT) offered its service to particular national and international events and to the promotion of community running in general.
In 1982, three members of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team were invited to join a select committee charged with the responsibility of organising the Xllth Commonwealth Games Marathon and Road Walk.
As a logistical trial for this international event, the committee staged the Australian Marathon and Road Walk Championships a few months earlier. Both events were a great success, the highlight being Rob de Castella's historic victory in the Games Marathon.
Community Running Support
The SCMT were founding members of the Sunstate Fun Run Advisory Committee which was formed under the auspices of the Queensland Athletic Association to advise on the organisation of community road races and to set standards in course measurement and timing of events as well as safety and health of participants.
The committee met regularly for several years to discuss issues relevant to the running community, producing a biannual calendar of events and a publication of guidelines for organising fun runs. At the request of the committee, the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team represented Queensland at meetings in Canberra and Sydney to initiate the formation of a national road running association.
